Quick Lime Powder

About Quick Lime Powder

Quick Lime Powder, also known as Calcium Oxide (CaO), is a fine white powder produced by the thermal decomposition of limestone. This versatile compound is widely used in various industries due to its alkaline properties. Quick Lime Powder plays a crucial role in applications such as water treatment, construction, steel manufacturing, and chemical processing. Its ability to neutralize acidity, stabilize soil, and act as a fluxing agent in metallurgy makes it a valuable resource for many industries. Quick Lime Lumps manufactured in-house are crushed into fine powder. The powder is then packed in airtight bags. It is mostly used in AAC Blocks, Plastic Industry, etc.

USES OF QUICK LIME POWDER

  1. Lighting: When quicklime is heated to 2,400 °C (4,350 °F), it emits a strong light. This type of light is known as limelight and was extensively used in theater productions before the advent of electric lights.
  2. Cement: Calcium oxide is a crucial component in cement production. As an affordable and readily available base alkali, approximately 50% of the total quicklime output is converted into calcium hydroxide for use. Both quicklime and hydrated lime are utilized in the purification of drinking water.
  3. Paper: Calcium oxide is employed to regenerate sodium hydroxide from sodium carbonate during the chemical recovery process at Kraft pulp mills.
  4. Plaster: There is archaeological evidence suggesting that Pre-Pottery Neolithic B people utilized lime-based plaster for flooring and other applications. Lime-ash floors were in use until the late nineteenth century.
  5. Chemical or Power Production: Solid sprays or slurries of calcium oxide are used to remove sulfur dioxide from exhaust gases in a process known as flue-gas desulfurization.
  6. Mining: Solid lime cartridges take advantage of quicklime's exothermic properties to fracture rocks. A hole is drilled into the rock as usual, a sealed cartridge of quicklime is inserted, and then water is added. The resulting steam, along with the expanded solid, breaks the rock apart. This method is ineffective for hard rocks.
  7. Medicine: Quicklime is used in medicine, as well as in insecticides, and as a component in the food and feed of plants and animals for laboratory purposes, including gas absorption, precipitation, dehydration, etc.
  8. Water Softening: It is also used for softening water and in the recovery of ammonia (by-product of the Solvay process).
  9. Soil Improvement: Quicklime helps enhance the quality of soil.
